LCD DefinedLCD is an anacronym for liquid crystal display. This type of display is used in gadgets lige digital watches, portable computers and digital cameras. The LCD display utilizes two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution in between them. As electricity passes through the liquid, it causes the crystals to align in such a way that it blocks light from passing through.
Monochrome LCD
Monochrome LCD displays use only one technique to display graphics:
- Monochrome LCD images usually appear blue or dark gray with a grayish-white background.
Color LCD
Color LCD displays use two basic techniques for producing color:
- Passive Matrix is the less expensive of the two technologies. Passive Matrix displays using the new CSTN and DSTN technologies produce crisp colors compairable to the TFT active-matrix displays.
- Thin Film Transistor (TFT) or active-matrix, displays color images that are clean and sharp, but the technology is expensive.
